What sort of hardware do I need?
Connecting to your PTLGateway desktop couldn't simpler. Depending on the security technology you choose to impliment all you require is an internet
enabled device. This could take the form of a
·
desktop PC
·
laptop computer
·
a thin client
·
handheld computer
·
smartphone
Minimum Specification for PC
You may be using a state of the art windows desktop as part of the PTLGateway desktop but the PC you use doesn't have to be a state of the art PC.
Using Citrix's ICA technology, your PTLGateway can run on as lower specification as shown below:

Microsoft Windows 2000/XP
·
Single Processor (Pretty much any speed!)
·
128MB Memory
·
50MB Free Disk Space
Graphics Card, 16MB is okay, but to benefit from the Graphics quality that can be delivered we would recommend 32MB+ if however you would only be
using basic application functionality such as simple word processing and spreadsheets which do not require high graphics quality, then you can use the
lower specification graphics adaptors.
Thin Clients
A low-cost computing device that accesses applications and and/or data from a central server over a network. It is essentially little more than a network
card, IO ports and a graphics card used to access software applications are located on a powerful server(s) where all the processing is carried out so
that the clients are effectively "dumb" terminals. All the Thin Client technically does is is send keystrokes and mouse movements to the server and
display the results on the screen, making them ideal for the PTLGateway solution. More advanced devices do provide local USB ports and some even
have security features to prevent them being able to be used by unauthorised persons such as Smartcards.
There are a vast number of devices available on the market nowadays as they become increasingly popular as a low maintenance, low administrative
and comparibaly low cost alternative to bying new PC's. PTLGateway has an established record of working a number of devices Wyse, ChipPC and
Neoware and we are happy to work with a client to identify the right device for them.
Handheld Devices
If all you require is hosted eMail (Exchange) then you could even access our Secure Webmail Portal via a Handheld device such as an iPaq or
Smartphone, the consultants at PTLGateway will be happy to identify the options that are available and suited to your requirements.
